About Ella Genasci Smith

Ella Genasci Smith is a senior at Smith College where she is earning her bachelor's degree in political science with a focus on East Asia. Having spent her formative years in Hong Kong and learning Mandarin, she has found herself interested in China and the country’s environmental policy. At Smith, Ella has chosen to delve deeper into this area of study by writing an honors thesis investigating Chinese overseas oil investment in Angola and South Sudan. Prior to WRI, Ella interned at the Woodrow Wilson Center’s China Environment Forum, Chinadialogue and with ChinaFile at the Asia Society. Her writing has appeared in the Huffington Post, Chinadialogue and University College London’s International Public Policy Review, among other publications.
